God is in Control
by Lorenz Alipio
Giving up control requires trust. You have to trust that the car will get you safely to your destination. It is the same with learning to trust God with the direction and outcome of our lives.
Have you ever reached your destination after a long road trip and stumbled out of the car completely worn out? It can be so tiring to grip the wheel, pump the gas, and keep your eyes on the road hour after hour. The most exhausting part about driving is that you always have to be on alert. If you close your eyes for just one moment, disaster can strike!
Tesla is hoping to change all that by creating cars with an auto-pilot and self-driving feature that almost allows the car to drive completely by itself. Sounds wonderful, right? Well, there is one catch: You have to give your control of the car over to… the car!
Giving up control requires trust. You have to trust that the car will get you safely to your destination. It is the same with learning to trust God with the direction and outcome of our lives. Once you learn that God is trustworthy, you can start to hand him control over your life. You’ll still work hard and make plans, but you won’t worry so much about the outcome since it is ultimately in God’s hands. You’ll reach your destination more relaxed because you know that when the Lord is with you, there’s no reason to be anxious about anything (Philippians 4:5).
Would you rather use a Tesla on auto-pilot on a straight, traffic-free road or a winding mountain pass? Most people would choose the first option because it’s easier to trust in safer situations. Likewise, it can be hard to trust God when we go through challenging circumstances. Yet God calls us to turn all of our anxieties and burdens over to him. He promises that he will sustain us because he loves us (Psalm 55:22, 1 Peter 5:7).
Thankfully, God is wiser and more powerful than any person or car! We can trust him with our very lives even if we traverse winding mountain passes or even the unfathomable mysteries of space! God is bigger than whatever we may face.
So no matter what you are going through in your life right now, may this piece of art remind you that there’s no need to panic. God is in control. And he’s telling you to “Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for (I am) with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9).
